DeVon
DeVon, local contemporary pop artist from Hollywood CA, creates extravagant, glittering works of art that are as massive in size as they are in meaning. Originally discovering a love of pop art through friendships with artists like Peter Max, Andy Warhol, Steve Kaufman to name a few. When Kaufman–who had been Warhol’s assistant in The Factory–passed away, DeVon felt an intense sense of duty to carry this legacy forward, proud to stand on the shoulders of the greats before him.
DeVon studied painting and drawing at the University Utah, where he created his own major, combining art with business and marketing courses. While at the same time, he completed a highly competitive internship at the curator’s office of the Supreme Court of the United States as well as an extensive study abroad program in Art History and Language. Upon graduation, DeVon collaborated with other artists by opening galleries in Beverly Hills, Laguna Beach, Carmel, San Francisco, Park City, and Aspen. He has lectured in academics of art in Russia, France, Italy, China, South America, and across the United States. Though he loved owning his own gallery which sold many works by Picasso, Rembrandt, and Warhol, he eventually succumbed to his desire to solely be an artist and feed the creative pull that led him to make his own art once again.
Striving to represent the “heroes’ story,” in all his work, he pays homage to Warhol and Kaufman, as well as other artistic greats. In many of his works, you’ll find references to Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein alongside many subjects he uses such as: Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, the Beatles, Clint Eastwood, James Bond, and more! The more the viewer studies the work, the more profound they become as the glossy allure one sees at first glance is merely the first sentence to a fantastic tale.
We invite the viewer to step inside the mind of the artist, and like a DJ, we find that DeVon mixes and remixes images, mediums, while pulling references in a way that is simultaneously familiar and uniquely his own. He connects to the loss and haunting beauty of Hollywood icons, rock legends, superheroes, and dreamers. In their eternal “now moment,” when the past is gone and the future does not yet exist, when they experience a glimpse of pure truth: subtle, sparkling, glorious, and radiantly awesome! He encrusts his subjects in spiritual light through diamond dust, Swarovski crystals, black light, veils, and vibrant color. He screenprints images, then uses a variety of mixed media like acrylic paint, linen, enamel, embedded lights, shadow box, and wood, all beneath multiple layers of plexiglass.
DeVon lives and works in Park City. A partial list of his collectors include Mariah Carey, Charlie Sheen, Kurt Russell, Steve Young, Larry King, Iggy Azalea, Blake and Ryan Reynolds, David Grohl, Macklemore, Flo Rida, 2 Chains, Post Malone, Kevin Plank (the owner of Under Armour) Kei$ha, Kygo, Steve and Nancy Crown, 11 current players of the Chicago Bulls, Avicci, Nero, Travis Scott, Joe Rogan, Kettle One, Macklemore, Ryan Lewis, Skrillex, Patin Hughes, David Grohl, Jim Kwik, Lana Fuches, Keith Cunningham, Tono Yother, Doterra, TruFushion fitness, and many more.
