Karl Lansing
Born in the small town of Creston, British Columbia, in 1959, Karl Lansing grew up close to nature. As a young boy, he had opportunitites to view and study wildlife in their natural habitat. His father was a passionate hunter and influenced his sons in the sport. By age twelve, Karl had engrained a passion for wildlife and put that passion to use in the art of sculpture making.
Karl Lansing’s sculptures can be found all across the US, Canada, Mexico and even Europe. His sculptures are works of art we the viewer can enjoy from either afar or up close. With their deep level of design and added layers of paint, we see textures of tree bark and animal fur, and eye piercing beauty which thus gives them a life-like feel. The thoughtful names he gives his masterpieces are even something to enjoy.
Karl’s studio is nestled in the southeast corner of British Columbia. He enjoys the process of creating a new piece, from the initial inception through to the final details that make his work so unique. He strives to create works of art that will captivate the attention of the viewer. When you look at a Karl Lansing sculpture and feel life in the eyes, or hear the bugle of the elk, or smell the earth around you, then Karl feels his work is done.
Karl Lansing is an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, as well as a family man. Sculpting has become a natural extension for him to portray the impact that wilderness and wildlife have in his life. He thoroughly enjoys the challenging and ever-changing career that he has chosen.
Karl Lansing has several galleries in Canada and the United States that showcase his artwork. He
has become an avid member of more than a few Wildlife conservation groups and enjoys working with and for organizations that contribute back to nature. Through these conservation groups he has been honored with many awards, including the People’s Choice award at the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep three consecutive times. In 2007 he was honored with the Collector’s Choice in 3-dimensional artwork at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, acquiring a coveted Stamped buckle.
With the talents he has been given, and the extensive knowledge of wildlife that he has, it’s no wonder that Karl Lansing’s artwork is often spoken of as a “must buy.” In recent years, he has been commissioned several times for monument works. He enjoys the challenges of working on larger-than-life monuments and strives to achieve just the right amount of detail. Artwork is his joy in life and creating it is an extension of who Karl Lansing is!
