Katrina Berg
Candy Colored Portals
Her CANDY colored oil paintings are recorded memories of favorite places & things with a good dose of pastel colors to keep life sweet. With a rare bone disease, secondary infertility, and memories of abuse remind she reminds us that life isn't always easy and jolly. Through her journey and art we discover the savoring sweet moments God gives us and the strength we need to find peace, growth, and fulfillment along the journey. Berg paints to embrace the sweet amidst the unsavory and to share that sweetness with others.
Katrina Berg trained as a landscape architect, “I worked to create outdoor rooms and cozy spaces wherewith to enjoy nature. now as a painter, i seek to bring the "outside in" by painting the natural world around me” As she brings the landscape vistas & views from her cozy windows in Midway UT, the deer, flowers and birds & neighboring fields create the perfect inspiration as she loves mixing all her favorite things into what sounds like a fairy tail: a floral still life with birds, bees & butterflies perched on stems and branches with an occasional deer or crane waltzing through the canvas.
Katrina’s unique color pallete and thick strokes formed with brush & palette knife sparkle like pieces of stained glass. Unlike most artwork, her work is meant to be touched. the thick yummy paint can make the experience so much more personal. With 5 kiddos in and out of the studio, each piece has been carefully varnished & made as durable as possible. She paints on wood as she’s able to achieve the most shine and color intensity that way.
Over the past decade Katrina has enjoyed sharing tips and strategies with other artists to improve their art business, marketing, and social media at the Sears Art Museum as part of the "business of art conference," Springville Museum of art & creative collaborative in provo. Has served on local art chapter boards and helped with art programs in local schools. Katrina carries many awards and is very proud to have been awarded the "juror's choice" award at the Utah women artists exhibition (2018). I have participated in many exhibitions in Utah as well as in the Boston area, galleries, and local plein air events in and throughout Utah. Her work is found in many private collections across the U.S. as well as in Europe, Israel, Canada, Japan, & South America.
When Katrina is not painting, gardening, or concocting with her kiddos in the kitchen, she loves to spend time outside with her 5 children,(4 sons (including twins) and one daughter) and her husband Carl also considered one of her children too. She reminds us “life is sweeter in candy color! a bite or taste is much like a memory: frozen in time and cataloged with those things we hold most dear.”
